Philosophy & Vision

The Arts & Media Academy supports a student-centered approach to instruction in which arts and technology/media are integral to the educational process and are tools of communication that can be used to create deep and meaningful connections and learning of academic content and concepts.

The curriculum is based on the Common Core State Standards and is implemented through engaging and relevant active learning strategies. Curriculum emphasis: project based-learning with teacher collaboration in lesson design with an emphasis on visual and performing arts.

Student work is evaluated through various assessments including performance tasks, teacher observation and state standardized tests.

School Organization

The Arts & Media Academy is a small school that is organized to provide a personalized learning environment. Wefollow an alternating schedule of a
traditional schedule and a 90 minute block schedule which allows in-depth student learning. Block scheduling, teaming, and coring, allows for a deeper relationship among student, teacher and parents.

Enrichment 

Music, Art, Dance, and Choir are offered to develop student talent and support their interests in the arts.

Teaming

Grade level teachers work together throughout the year to plan interdisciplinary thematic units. This allows for teachers to create lessons that are 
engaging and meaningful for the students. The common planning experience provides teachers with instructional strategies that support consistent and thorough access to all parts of the curriculum.

Accelerated Curriculum

Students seeking accelerated curriculum are offered Accelerated Math 7 and Algebra 1 courses for reinforcement and acceleration. We offer Accelerated Math 7 to our grade seventh grade students and Eighth grade students that meet the criteria can take Algebra 1.

Arts Programs

Our Visual and Performing Arts programs include the four art forms: Dance, Music, Choir, and Visual Arts. Students attending the Arts and Media Academy will participate in one or two elective courses every school year.

Student Leadership

Student representatives serve on the student council. Various student committees assist in planning school social events and serve as the voice
for the entire student body.

After-School Activities

Student have the opportunity to join and compete with other schools in football, basketball, soccer, and volleyball. We also provide tutoring and YS-Plus program for student that need additional support.

Parent Involvement

Parent involvement is highly valued and encouraged. The several ways parents can be involved at the Arts and Media Academy are: School governance (ELAC, SSC & ESBMM), volunteering, and parent workshops.
